1. ART HISTORY ASSESSMENT 1 I decided on Albrecht Durer’s “Praying hands” to compare to my swimmer drawing. Durer’s illustration of hands shows great detail using the hatching techniques. Albrecht Durer, Praying hands, 1508 Ava Wonn, Swimming, 2014

2. ARTIST- ALBRECHT DURER Albrecht Durer’s artwork is inspiring to me because he has amazing detail in all of his work. The feeling to his artwork is hopeful and seems very personal, in telling his story. The lines created by his pen gives his artwork lots of contrast in color and add value to his pieces. Adding these techniques into his work creates a realistic image and is very impressive to the viewer. I chose to compare my piece to his because I really love his work and find it very outstanding.

3. SIMILARITIES My artwork and Durer’s work don’t have very many similarities based on appearance Some similarities that are included in look are: Value, Contrast between color, and the techniques used for hatching. Some other similarities between Durer’s work and mine include the way the artwork felt to me, both pieces showed signs of hope and encouragement The hands show encouragement because when you think someone praying you think of someone praying you think of that person having hope and ambition My swimmer picture shows encouragement and ambition because it relates to how I felt before my swim meet and how nervous and excited I was

4. DIFFERENCES Our pieces differ because of the way they look and the distance between the lines Another difference is the size of the lines and the pens used to make them I also think that Durer used some shading techniques as opposed to just hatching because his pieces has a really different look in value

5. REFLECTION I think that Albrecht Durer would like parts of my work such as the meaning behind the piece and the hatching techniques that I used, I also think he would like the contrast in color and value Some things I’m not sure Durer would like is the size of my lines and the fact that my piece has less realism to it that his art I think that Durer would like to know that our art class was inspired by his pieces and tried to create artwork using similar techniques and ideas
