It is not the number of births that matter but the relationship between the number of births and the size of population
Birth Rate (b) is the number of births for every 1000 people
In Canada this is 10 births for every people

4. Death Rate
The Death Rate (d) calculates the number of deaths per year for every 1000 people
In Canada this number is about 7 per year for every 1000

5. The Rate of Natural Increase
The birth and death rate can be put into a useful measurement called the natural rate of increase

11. Population Growth Rate
…is a measurement that combines both natural increase
and net migration to calculate the overall growth of
a country’s population.
To calculate:
Population Growth Rate = natural increase rate +
net immigration rate/1000 x 100 (%)

12. Compounding
Doubling Time - is the time it would take for a country’s population to double at the country’s current rate of population growth
Rule of 70 - is when you divide 70 by the population growth rate to estimate how many years it will take for the country’s population to double
