Who is Miss Stratis? I have 2 children: Melissa and Stephen. I have been a teacher for over 20 years. I have a bachelor degree from UCSB. I have a teaching credential from CSUN. I have a master’s degree from Walden U. I love to read, cook, do art, work out at the gym, and swim. I also love being a teacher!!

Attendance Class begins at 8:00 a.m. Class ends at 2:25 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Class ends at 12:20 p.m. on Wednesdays. Punctuality is extremely important! Attending class regularly is crucial to school success!

Homework Homework is an extension of the school curriculum and regular completion is critical to academic success! Daily Excel. Daily homework packets. Nightly Reading Minutes. 100 Reading Minutes are due weekly.

Classroom Rules 5 I-Care Rules: 1. We listen to each other. 2. Hands are for helping, not hurting. 3. We use I-Care Language. 4. We care about each other’s feelings. 5. We are responsible for what we say and do. Behavior forms Praise and other positive reinforcement

How do I know what my child is learning? Please talk to them each day about school. Weekly Newsletters: please fill out the form given out tonight if you would like these sent to your e-mail or you would like a hard-copy. Parent-teacher conferences 2x a year. Refer to copy of the report card and Third Grade Standards. Call or send me an e-mail.

Classroom Volunteers Each class at Portola needs a “Room Parent.” This can be shared by two parents. I love having help in or out of the classroom. Please sign the volunteer list. Check in at the office and come on in!

How can I help my child learn and succeed in school? Support the completion of homework. Listen to my child read and ask questions (i.e. “Tell me about what you just read?”) Read the Everyday Math unit letters. Read the weekly newsletter together. Look over completed work and talk about it. Ask the teacher questions. Praise your child for their hard work and efforts in school.

Birthdays You are welcome to bring treats to class in honor of your child’s birthday. Please try to schedule this in advance. Healthy treats are highly encouraged! Summer birthdays: Talk to me about scheduling a celebration.

Snacks Your children often get hungry between breakfast and lunch. I highly recommend that your child bring a healthy snack to eat at our first recess. Water bottles are allowed in the classroom.
