1 GOD’S WILL FOR HIS PEOPLE (PART II)
LESSON 19 GOD’S WILL FOR HIS PEOPLE (PART II)

2 Opening Prayer Before lesson
Dear God, when I think of the times I've misused your name, I blush with shame. All around me I hear your names used at the silliest times...when people are angry or excited or amused. But you don't think it's so silly. It's your name. Dear Jesus, forgive me for the times I've fallen into that sin. Help me to know you better so that I use your name in a way that shows my love for you, not my disinterest and disobedience. Teach me more about you through your Word and get into my heart so that I really want to live for you -- not just on Sunday, but every day of my life. Help us with this study today. We pray believing that you will help us. Amen. Before lesson Dear God, when I think of the times I've misused your name, I blush with shame. 58 His Word in My Life Bob has good intentions. He promises himself that he’s going to take some time each evening to read God’s Word. But most nights he forgets. He comes home, turns the TV on, and ends up watching it instead. He’s not happy with himself about this, and he asks you what he should do. What are some things you might suggest that he do? Tell him to pray that God will help him overcome this weakness. Urge him to put his Bible on top of the TV remote to remind himself to reach a chapter or so before he even turns the TV on. Suggest how he might combine both TV watching and Bible reading: make a plan for himself at the beginning of each week what TV programs he wants to watch and also what time each evening he will set aside for Bible reading.

59 His Word in My Life Agree or Disagree: It’s okay to miss church if the only job you can get to support yourself is on Sunday. This doesn’t have to be an either/or matter. God doesn’t say that Sunday is the only day of the week that he wants us to worship. Man or our synod’s congregations have services on weekday evenings for those who have to work on Sunday. If your congregation doesn’t have such a service, you might ask to have one started. There are probably other people like you who face the same problem.

60 His Word in My Life What’s wrong here? Teri says that she doesn’t have to go to Bible class or read the Bible at home because she gets all the spiritual strength she needs from the Sunday worship service. She certainly gets spiritual strengthening from attending the Sunday service. Bur the Sunday service doesn’t give her the chance to study parts of the Bible in depth and more detail as a Bible class could. And reading the Bible at home, either by studying a chapter a day or using a devotional book, can give her food for her soul seven times a week instead of only once a week. Today’s young Christians are constantly confronted with temptations and attacks on their faith (such as com at us from unbelieving people at school or work, or from man TV programs and some kinds of music). So we need to be strengthened by God’s Word as frequently and as much as possible – rather than trying to get by with a minimum.

61 His Word in My Life Agree or Disagree: It is not cursing if we don’t use God’s name in the form that it is used in the Bible, e.g., “gol darn you” or “Gosh darn it.” As with many things in God’s

62 Closing Prayer After lesson
