4. HISTORY OF TELEVISION IN NEW ZEALAND 1980 - TVNZ is formed as State Owned Enterprise (SOE) 1986 - Legislation is passed that requires SOE’s to run as commercially successful businesses 1989 - The market deregulates. TV3 launches in 1989 and Sky in 1990

5. 2003, February - TVNZ becomes a crown-owned company. Advertising revenue surpasses $300m for the first time 2007, February - Regional ad breaks are no longer broadcast on Sky’s digital 2008 - Television viewership is now estimated at 3.8 million 2009 - Full regional breaks are offered on TV ONE.
