1. Abiding Word Lutheran Church Castle Rock, CO Mission (“CRM”) March 2, 2008

2. AWLC’s Outreach to Castle Rock Four meetings of various AWLC families (“CRM group”), including representatives from our synod’s mission board, have been held over the last 45 days. The CRM group has explored many ideas on how best to reach out to the Castle Rock community. Decision made to take decisive action to capture the CRM group’s enthusiasm and maintain momentum. The CRM group reached a consensus to submit a plan to the Board for Home Missions (“BHM”) in March 2008 to seek synod support for the CRM effort.

3. AWLC’s Outreach to Castle Rock The CRM group has investigated many alternatives to reach the Castle Rock community. In formulating our recommendation, the CRM group has weighed the alternatives using the following criteria: –Maximize outreach to Castle Rock community –Quick and measurable impact –Utilization of CRM group’s knowledge, expertise and dedication –Cooperative effort with AWLC –Utilize mission experience/expertise –Continuity of mission effort

4. AWLC’s Outreach to Castle Rock Recommendation: –AWLC submit a proposal to the BHM in March 2008 requesting funding for a three month assignment of a semi-retired pastor. The semi-retired pastor would provide experience and organization to the CRM efforts, assist us in building community relationships, provide ideas for effective and immediate community outreach and assist AWLC to allow Pastor Ebert to assist the CRM effort. –At the end of the three month assignment, we would expect to have a formal recommendation to submit to the BHM in November 2008. This may result in more or less synod funding, depending on what we learn during the three month evaluation.

5. AWLC’s Outreach to Castle Rock Recommendation continued… –Upon completion of the 3 month assessment and assuming a positive recommendation to the BHM in November 2008, AWLC will need to review additional alternatives. It is currently envisioned that we would partner with the synod to call a second pastor at AWLC with the distinct responsibility of building up the CRM effort. –Ask AWLC voting members to approve this initial 3 month assignment (estimated $2,000) to show the synod’s BHM the commitment and confidence that AWLC has in the CRM effort.

6. AWLC’s Outreach to Castle Rock What can you do? –Join the CRM group and participate in this AWLC exciting outreach project! –Support the CRM effort with special offerings. –Keep the CRM effort in your prayers.
