8 Movement We chose to look at a kick for our movement. There is a lot of skill and technique involved in perfecting taekwondo kicks. For our variables we chose to look at the speed of the kick and the force produced by the kick.

9 Calculations-Speed Speed= d/t In order to calculate the speed of a kick, you must first find the distance from when the foot comes off of the ground to when the foot makes contact with the opponent. Then, find the time it took for the foot go that distance. After you find those, you will divide the distance by the time in order to find the speed of the kick.

10 Calculations- Force Force= m x a To find the force of the kick, you need to know the mass of the person in kilograms and also the acceleration of the kick. Acceleration is the change in velocity (Vf-Vi) divided by the change in time (Tf-Ti). In this case, the velocity is going to be the same as the speed, which was found in the previous equation. After you calculate the acceleration, you will multiply the mass times the acceleration to get the force.

11 Significance of Studying the Variables It is important to study these calculations because it can help you improve on your kicking technique. Knowing how to calculate these variables can be especially helpful for people who have been practicing taekwondo for years and want to see how they have improved over time.
