4. MEMORISATION How the sensory, short and long term memory works.

5. SENSORY TERM MEMORY 1. Only lasts a few seconds. 2. Easy to picture what you saw but the details are lost. 3. If the picture is valuable enough, or the information is worked with the information will be passed on to the short term memory.

6. SHORT TERM MEMORY 1. Also known as working memory. 2. The sensory memory is transferred here next 3. Information will stay here for a bit but will be eventually forgotten. 4. If you consolidate the information, it will then be passed on to the long term memory.

7. LONG TERM MEMORY You can spell the word ‘house’ without thinking about it because it has been stored in your long term memory. Information stored in your long term memory can be accessed at any time. This is what you want your learning routine to do because once stored in the long term memory you will not need to re-learn it – cutting your learning time down considerably.

8. STUDY ENVIRONMENT The environment that you study in must fulfil certain criteria, in order for it to be a productive environment that lends itself to learning.

9. STUDY SKILLS 1. Most people are studying incorrectly, without even knowing it. 2. By determining where your study methods are failing you, it helps you to understand where you need to make changes. 3. Your results will improve immediately as you start implementing more productive study methods. Why do you need to evaluate the way that you currently study?
