1. Graphing Scatter Plots and Finding Trend lines

2. Graphing
In order to create a scatter plot on the calculator we must first do two things
Turn plot one on
Change the zoom setting to zoomstat

3. Turning Plots on (TI-84+)
Turn the calculator on
Hit the “Stat Plot” key (“2nd” + “Y=”)
Hit enter on plot 1
The curser should be blinking over the word “On”
Hit “Enter”

4. Setting Zoom (TI-84+)
1) Hit the zoom button and select choice 9 “ZoomStat”

5. Creating Scatter Plots (TI-84+)
Hit the “stat” button
Hit “enter” at choice 1: Edit…

6. Creating Scatter Plots (TI-84+)
3) Enter the data into L1 and L2. The domain (x-values) go into L1 and the range (y-values) go into L2
**Make sure that the domain value is right next to the corresponding range value

7. Creating Scatter Plots (TI-84+)
4) Hit “Graph”

8. Finding Trend Line (TI-84+)
Hit the “Stat” button
Hit the right arrow once to select “Calc”
Select choice 4: ‘LinReg(ax +b)’
Hit “Enter”
Hit “Enter” again

9. Finding Trend Line (TI-84+)
6) The calculator will now display what “a” and “b” equals. “a” is the slope of the trend line and “b” is the y-intercept

10. Finding Trend Line(TI-84+)
To graph the trend line:
Hit “Y=”
2) Hit “VARS”
Select choice 5: “Statistics”
Hit “Enter”

11. Finding Trend Line (TI-84+)
5) Hit the right arrow twice to select “EQ” at the top
6) Select choice 1: “RegEQ”
7) Hit “Enter”

12. Graphing Trend Line (TI-84+)
8) The equation of the trend line will now appear on the “Y1” line
9) Hit the graph button to see the graph

13. Graphing – Method 2 (TI-89)
10) The scatter plot and trend line should now appear
DONE 
