What are they? Why do we use them? Pronouns
9
Pronouns: What are they? Examples of familiar gendered pronouns include: She, her, hers: can indicate that subject is female. Monica called me to say that she is going to be late. He, him, his: can indicate that subject is male. Andrew told me that his favorite class was history. Some familiar pronouns aren’t gendered, like: I, me, you, we, and they.
10
Pronouns: What are they? Inclusive or neutral pronouns include: They, them, theirs: functions a singular and plural gender-neutral pronoun. Taylor doesn’t want to go to the movie because they dislike Nicholas Cage’s acting.
11
Just in case you’re worried about the grammar:
12
Pronouns: What are they? Inclusive or neutral pronouns include: Ze, hir, hirs: does not indicate the subject’s gender. (Pronounced zee, here and heres.) Sam is changing hir major to chemistry. Some may just wanted to be referred to by their name only. Jane went back to Jane’s office after the parent session. Jane said that Jane really enjoyed it, but Jane had to get back, because Jane’s staff really needed Jane’s input on a project.
