3. When would you look up a regulation?  Regulations are subordinate legislation  When you want more detail about a law… –Framework legislation –i.e. The Canadian National Anthem Act Singing in Schools, SOR/2005-147 NOT A REAL ACT!

4. Can you find information about the regulations process?  Answer: not really  Regulations are “promulgated by appropriate government ministry bureaucrats or other bodies after varying degrees of public consultation”

5. Looking up regulations  First published in the Canada Gazette, Part I, so that interested parties may submit comments, etc.Canada Gazette, Part I  After a period of time, final version is published in the Canada Gazette, Part IICanada Gazette, Part II –This is the official publication

6. Looking up regulations, part 2  Made or approved under the authority of an Act  format: SOR/2005-120  Statutory Orders and Regulations

7. Updating regulations Consolidated Index of Statutory Instruments –indexes regulations alphabetically by their name and also according to the enabling statutes

8. Updating regulations  Check the Consolidated Index of Statutory InstrumentsConsolidated Index of Statutory Instruments  For very recent amendments to regulations, you will have to look through the recent issues of the Canada Gazette, Part II
