GRASSLANDS

Environmental Facts There is two different types of grasslands. The first one is tropical grasslands, the second one is temperature grasslands. There is only five percent of original grasslands in the world today. There is lots of grasslands that is located around the world, for example: the rocky mountains, Africa, Australia, and many more. The two main type of seasons that happens the most is rainy season and humid (hot) season. Grasslands are located between the tropical of cancer and tropical of cap,

Environmental Effects When the grasslands catches on fire from thunder storms, dryness of the season it is, or by poachers, the fire will burn everything that gets in it’s way, but after a couple of months everything that was burned will grow back in it’s place slowly. During the rainy season at the grasslands the soil will be every wet and will move around by the rain drops that is hitting the ground, but it wouldn’t move to much since the roots of the plants will hold it intact from the rainy season. Farming has ruined lots of the grasslands because of the different soil that the farmers had put with the original soil.

Climate Depending on the latitude, the yearly range can be from 20 c. to 30 c. Temperatures in grasslands are composed of richments of grasses and underlain by some of the worlds most fertilized soils. There is only about 500 mm to 900 mm of rain per year, due to this lack of rain, there’s not a lot of trees.

Botany Soil is formed slowly as the rock erodes into tiny pieces near the earths surface. There are many different types of soils, and each one has unique characteristics, like color, texture structures, and mineral content. The grass dies back to their roots annually, the soil protects the roots, and new buds from the cold winters or dry summers

Animal Life and Adaptations The grasslands of the world support different populations of animals. In general however, the animals the live in the grasslands have adapted to dry, windy conditions. The majority of animals you find in grasslands are large mammals. Many animals live in grasslands, from invertebrates, like grasshoppers and beetles to large mammals like antelopes and bison.

Steppes (European grasslands) Steppes consists of 3 groups of animals : marsupials, monotremes, and placental mammals. Marsupials are animals whose young are born very immature and most females have a pouch to carry their young in. Monotremes are primitive egg-laying mammals. Placental mammals are advanced mammals whose unborn young nourished through a placenta.
