ANIMAL FACTS: ADAPTATIONS Turtles use their shells for protection. Eastern box turtles hibernate in the winter, usually under dead leaves or inside of old stumps of trees. Female turtles build nests to lay eggs.

THE FOREST ECOSYSTEM The temperate forest has four visible, distinct seasons. Deciduous temperate forests have a moderate climate. Precipitation in deciduous temperate forests ranges from 75cm to 150 cm a year.

THE FOREST ECOSYSTEM There are many varieties of plants and wildlife in a temperate deciduous forest. There are many varieties of trees, including evergreens and conifers.
