History Continued During World War II, Hitler formed many concentration camps throughout Germany and Poland. In these camps the people imprisoned, mainly of Jewish or Gypsy descent, were tortured, starved, put through horrific conditions, killed, and worked to death. Written proof of the real life horror that existed during the Holocaust.

Author- Early Life September 20, 1928- Elie was born in Romania Grew up in a Jewish family that centered around religious studies, community, and God Elie and his family were deported to Auschwitz in 1944 when he was 15 Auschwitz was the largest of the Nazi concentration camps. It was located in Poland Elie not only survived Auschwitz but also Buna, Buchenwald and Gleiwitz--other Nazi concentration camps Elie’s mother, father, and younger sister passed away at the concentration camps However, his two older sisters survived 1945-concentration camps were liberated 1945-1948 lives in a French orphanage and begins studying in Paris Works at a French newspaper While working, Elie is encouraged to write about the tragedies that took place during his time at the concentration camps. Since then, Elie has published more than 30 books starting with his first novel Night 1963-Elie Wiesel becomes a U.S. citizen

Author- Later Life In 1958, he published his first book, La Nuit, also known asNight, a memoir of his experiences in the concentration camps In addition to novels such as A Beggar in Jerusalem (1968), The Testament (1980) and The Judges (2002), Wiesel has written books on Jewish lore and biblical characters and two volumes of memoirs. His works established him as the most widely known and admired Holocaust writer. Night is the only book he speaks about the Holocaust directly. In his other books the Holocaust seems like a shadow, an unspken mystery in the life of his protagoints. In addition to his literary activities, Wiesel played an important role as a public orator Each year he gave a series of lectures on Jewish tradition at New York's 92nd Street Young Men's Christian Association. Wiesel's novels usually involve spiritual dilemmas that confront his narrators. Night has been translated into more than 30 languages. Wiesel released a new English translation of Night in 2006, which was translated by his wife, Marion Wiesel.
