Departmental meeting discussion Highlight main elements: plan, targets, milestones and deadlines: Stick to them! Include the policy at induction training for new employees

Making people aware of energy issues and energy saving practices in their day-to-day activities Leads to a sustained improvement in energy performance within the organisation. Savings from 5% to 20%

Examples: After hours/Shift Change Survey What’s left on/turned off? If it’s on – why? If it’s on – how much energy is it using? Communicate the findings with all staff

Examples: Conduct an Energy Awareness Survey of Staff Provide prizes for x respondents Communicate the Results Remember timing and momentum??? Now is a good time to start your programme!

Plan Set targets for awareness and savings initiatives. Select your target audience and segment it. (See Step 13 Guide 1) Select motivation themes for the programme and create messages. E.g. local charity to get % of savings

Take Action Prepare and produce good quality visuals. Draw up an action plan and calendar of actions. Launch the “campaign” internally and use later in your external PR material if possible. Disseminate the materials/messages over a phased period. REMEMBER - Let people know how they can save energy!

Training Needs Analysis What kind of training is needed on an individual basis? Through job descriptions, records and interviews you can identify the current skills Compare these with the skills required to carry out the role satisfactorily

Define your training objectives Decide the target areas for training and who needs to be trained may include specialist training in particular plant, equipment or systems such as M&T Managers may also need to be trained in aspects such as including energy in purchasing criteria external contractors may require training.

Develop training programme and materials Training may be carried out in a number of ways formal ‘classroom’ training on-the-job training delivered by in-house staff external suppliers.
