3 Common and Proper Nouns A proper noun names a particular person, place, thing, or idea and is capitalized. A common noun names any one of a group of persons, places, things, or ideas and is generally not capitalized. 11 Collective? SingularCollective Directions: With your partner, brainstorm as many collective nouns as you can think of by passing a piece of paper between the two of you. Start with the first partner identifying a singular noun and then have the second partner identify a collective noun for a group of the singular noun. Think of as many singular and collective nouns as you can within the time limit.
