Chapter 1 The Reason For His Joy (19-26) Your prayers have been a help – Will eventuate my deliverance In all things, including imprisonment, he desires to honor Christ...in life or death – “For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain!” The dilemma: – To live or die? – There is an advantage with either – He will choose life, because that is better for them I will remain and continue with you for your progress and joy in the faith

Chapter 1 The Appeal to The Philippians (27-30) For steadfastness whether he is with them or not – Let your life be worthy of the Gospel Don’t be frightened of your enemies – They will be destroyed and you will be saved You will suffer for His sake – Just like I have

Chapter 2 Christ’s Example of Humility & Love IF there is any encouragement (consolation) in Christ – Comfort (exhortation) from love – Participation (fellowship) in the Spirit – Affection – Sympathy Complete (make full) my joy – Unity – No rivalry or conceit – Humility

Chapter 2 Love – Each counting others more significant than yourself – Looking to the interests of others as well as to yourself

Chapter 2 Although He was God – He gave up His place in the heavenly realm – Came to earth as a servant Death Death on a cross Has now been highly exalted above all things Every knee will bow, every tongue will confess Jesus is Lord To the glory of the Father

Chapter 2 Lights in the World Obey whether Paul is with them or not Work out your own salvation – Fear and trembling God works in you – For His good pleasure No complaining – Times are tough Shine as lights in the world of darkness Persevere – Paul’s pride that his work was successful

Chapter 2 Timothy & Epaphroditus Timothy – He hopes to send Timothy soon and looks forward to a good report back from him Timothy – “No one like him” – Genuinely concerned for their welfare – Paul’s son Paul hopes to visit them again

Chapter 2 Timothy & Epaphroditus Epaproditus – The messenger of the Philippians – Paul’s brother, fellow worker, fellow soldier, minister to Paul’s needs He has been missing you He has been very sick – Deathly ill – Risked his life to serve Paul on behalf of all of them
