Fourth Grade Major Clusters Supporting/Additional Clusters Operations and Algebraic Thinking Use the four operations with whole numbers to solve problems. Number and Operations in Base Ten Generalize place value understanding for multi-digit whole numbers. Use place value understanding and properties of operations to perform multi-digit arithmetic. Number and Operations—Fractions Extend understanding of fraction equivalence and ordering. Build fractions from unit fractions by applying and extending previous understandings of operations on whole numbers. Understand decimal notation for fractions, and compare decimal fractions. Gain familiarity with factors and multiples. Generate and analyze patterns. Measurement and Data Solve problems involving measurement and conversion of measurements from a larger unit to a smaller unit. Represent and interpret data. Geometric measurement: understand concepts of angle and measure angles. Geometry Draw and identify lines and angles, and classify shapes by properties of their lines and angles. Reading Unit 1 Structural elements of poems and prose (details, theme, main idea, figurative language) Unit 2 Use details to describe characters, setting, and events. Compare and contrast. Interpret graphs, charts, timelines, etc. Unit 3 Making inferences, studying mythology, point of view, overall structure, compare and contrast same event or topic. Unit 4 Use content areas to study main idea and details. Compare literature from other cultures. Technical texts. Unit 5 Themes in literature. In depth study of character, setting, or events. Our Classroom Homework Policy
Spelling: We will begin spelling next week. The list will be sent on Friday and pasted in the planner. Homework will be due the following Friday. Parent signatures are requested on list in planner please. Reading: minutes to achieve a chapter book and nonfiction each month Math: Nightly review of topics covered. Please practice multiplication facts and measure facts

Grading Policies We have switched to a new on line grading system called PowerSchool. We will be live soon soon. We use the seven point scale for grading: = A = B = C = D Below that is an F Math Homework: If the student has the homework completed a 100 is given. If it is not turned in it is a zero. We correct in class.

Oh the places they’ll go…with help from parents like you!
Parents are a valuable resource for each student! Supervision of homework is important. Be sure your child is reading nightly. Review the Tuesday packet and discuss work samples with your child. Contact me for anything-no matter how large or small and I will help you. Always ask “What did you learn today?” Oh the places they’ll go…with help from parents like you!
