N What do you need? blank 8-1/2 x 11 paper pencil straight edge
What do you do? Fold the paper two times in each direction. Make your folds precise and your crease sharp! Unfold and smooth the paper. The crease lines are your guidelines for drawing the map. Up is north.

Great Sea (Mediterranean)
5 SEAS Find three points along the middle fold line. Great Sea (Mediterranean) one at the map’s left edge one at the map’s center and one halfway in between Draw a backward “S” curve connecting all three points. Extend your line to where the right-most fold line meets the top of the map. You have drawn the coast of the first of five seas, the GREAT Sea.

5 SEAS Lay the back of your left hand on the bottom of your map with the first two fingers widely spread. Great Sea (Mediterranean) Do so that the index finger leaves approximately one inch between its tip and the Great Sea. Trace your fingers. 5 SEAS Kinneret (Sea of Galilee) Find the space between the Great Sea and the Red Sea. Great Sea (Mediterranean) Draw a small oval that almost fills the space. Salt Sea (Dead Sea, Sea of the Plain) You have drawn the fourth of five seas, the REED SEA, (Hebrew: “Yam Suf”), an extension of the Red Sea. Reed Sea Red Sea

1 MOUNTAIN Find a spot just above where the index and middle finger meet. Draw a mountain there. You have drawn Mount SINAI. Mount Sinai

2 RIVERS Find a spot halfway between Kinneret and the top of the map.
Jordan River Draw down along the fold line from this spot to the Kinneret and from the Kinneret to the Salt Sea. You have drawn the first of two rivers, the JORDAN.

2 RIVERS Find a spot in the center of the box to the left of the Reed Sea. Jordan River Draw a line up to that spot. Then draw a “V” up from the spot whose two arms fill the top of the box. You have drawn the second of two rivers, the NILE. (upper Egypt below and the Nile Delta or Lower Egypt above). Nile River

3 PARTS OF EGYPT Egypt called itself the “two lands.”
UPPER EGYPT was one. Lower Egypt LOWER EGYPT was the other. Israel was given pasture land to the east of the Nile Delta called GOSHEN.

4 WILDERNESSES IN SINAI the wilderness first encountered by Israel was SHUR. the wilderness near Mt. Sinai was SIN. Zin Shur the wilderness in the center was PARAN. Paran the last wilderness that Israel passed through on the way to the Promised Land was ZIN. Sin

6 NATIONS Israel spent 430 years in EGYPT. Amor-ites
God promised Israel a homeland in CANAAN. Canaan Moab Moses spent 40 years in MIDIAN. Edom Israel journeyed around the lands of EDOM and MOAB. Egypt before entering Canaan Israel defeated the AMORITES. Midian

from EGYPT to CANAAN Israel left Goshen, back-tracked, then crossed the sea and went to Sinai. 12 spies Amor-ites Jericho After a year at Sinai, Israel traveled to Kadesh. There the majority rebelled. Moab Kadesh Goshen God caused Israel to wander a generation (38+ years) in the wilderness. Sea Edom In the 40th year Israel traveled around Edom and Moab, defeated the Amorites, and camped across from Jericho. Sinai
