3 What is Comic Sans? Comic Sans is an informal font that looks like comic book lettering. It conveys a casual meaning. The font is not meant for formal documents. The font was named Comic Sans because it was inspired by comic book writing. Sans is short for sans-serif, which is a font without strokes at the end of letters. Times New Roman is a font with strokes or serifs Comic Sans is a font without serifs.

4 The Creation of Comic Sans  Comic Sans was accidentally created by Vincent Connare in 1994 at Microsoft Corp.  While working on a project, Connare designed his new font Comic Sans by using comic books as an inspiration.  A product manager liked it and decided to use it as a standard font in Microsoft Windows.  The font’s popularity grew as more people bought computers.

5 As its popularity has grown, Comic Sans has been used as a font for both formal and casual documents. It has been used in newspapers, signs, posters, emails, and various other modes of communication. The Use of Comic Sans

7 The Movement to Ban Comic Sans In 1999, a woman named Holly Sliger was irritated when her boss told her to use Comic Sans for a museum guide. She disliked the font with a passion. She and her husband Dave Combs started a movement to ban Comic Sans. They used stickers of Connare’s face to raise awareness of the overuse of Comic Sans.

8 Conclusion Comic Sans is a simple font that became overused. The Ban Comic Sans movement was created to oppose the use of the font. Although some people dislike Comic Sans, others commonly it. Comic Sans is still popular today despite the movement to ban the font. QUESTIONS?
