Simply, transcribing is the act of transforming or representing a word with the phonetic symbols that represent the sounds in the word. bee= [bi]boat=?Name=??? boo=[bu]bat=? bait=[bet]bought=? boy=[boi]cream=? city=[sIti]

Some letters are not represented with a symbol. For instance C is represented by the sounds [s] or [k]. C does not need a symbol representing it because the sound is already represented. Transcription can be performed backwards from phonetic or orthographic [gUd]=? [tren]=?
