Density Lab: Draw and title this data table in your journal:
Density Data Table: Material Radius (cm) Length (cm) Volume (cm3) Mass (g) Density (g/cm3)
2
Density Lab Procedure:
1) Measure and record the radius of each material 2) Measure and record the length of each material 3)Determine the volume of each material with the following formula: ∏ r2 x l or pie x radius2 x length 4) Measure and record the mass of each material 5) Calculate the density for each material with the following formula: D=m/v or density = mass/volume 6) Answer the analysis questions in your journal
3
Materials and their Densities
Density Aluminum 2.9 Copper 8.9 Polyethylene 1.02 PVC 1.4 Nylon 1.2
4
Density Lab Analysis Questions:
Which of the materials had the greatest density and why? Which of the materials had the least density and why? Predict which sample(s) would float in water. Describe how you could find the volume of each material without measuring the radius and length. Determine which type of investigation this lab would be classified as and defend your answer. Graph your results and label the IV and DV.
