Background HPV vaccine is a breakthrough, but there has been much controversy –Mandating vaccines: school entry, immigration –Concerns in public health community about competing costs and impact on Pap test usage A consensus has yet to be reached about whether and how to promote the vaccine State and national policy can have important impacts on vaccine awareness and vaccine usage

HPV Policy Project Update First paper: –Describes quantity and variety of HPV vaccine bills across 50 states from Jan 2006 – June 2008 –Traces the introduction, enactment, and failure to enactment of HPV vaccine bills –Data have been abstracted from all bills introduced over this time period A complete draft of the paper has been written: –Submit to Health Affairs by end of December 2008 –Laugesen M, Mistry R, Carameli K, Needleman J, Bastani R.
