2 Background HPV vaccine is a breakthrough, but there has been much controversy –Mandating vaccines: school entry, immigration –Concerns in public health community about competing costs and impact on Pap test usage A consensus has yet to be reached about whether and how to promote the vaccine State and national policy can have important impacts on vaccine awareness and vaccine usage

4 HPV Policy Project Update First paper: –Describes quantity and variety of HPV vaccine bills across 50 states from Jan 2006 – June 2008 –Traces the introduction, enactment, and failure to enactment of HPV vaccine bills –Data have been abstracted from all bills introduced over this time period A complete draft of the paper has been written: –Submit to Health Affairs by end of December 2008 –Laugesen M, Mistry R, Carameli K, Needleman J, Bastani R.
