E-Mobility >E-Mobility = the use of electric vehicles for transportation >E-Mobility combined with renewable energies could be one answer to global climate change, increased global population & limited resources >Aim of the German Federal Gov. is to put 1Mio Electric Vehicles on the road by 2020. >This seems to be unlikely considering current registration figures of E-cars (2012 only 3,000; Source: KBA). >With respect to E-Bikes incl. Pedelecs we have already hit the 1Mio threshold according to the bike association ADFC (sales of E- Bikes 2011–200,000, Sr: Derby Cycles) www.ba-bautzen.de 6 E-Car (Renault Twizy), BEV Charging tower Source: zsw.bw.de Number of E-cars on the road

Pedelec and E-Bike Pedelec (Pedal Electric Cycle) supports the user during cycling (max. power 250 Watts and max. velocity 25km/h E-Bike (Electric Bike) supports the user even without cycling (using the pedals) (max. power 500 Watts and max. velocity 20km/h Pedelec

National Development Plan E-Mobility Main objectives of the plan: I.Improvement of energy storage/ battery technology (for increased range) II.New vehicle technology (e.g. more efficient drive technology) III.Development of an area wide charging grid www.ba-bautzen.de 8 Quelle: Nationaler Entwicklungsplan Elektromobilität der Bundesregierung – BMBF, 2009 http://www.elektromobilitaet-verbindet.de Various initiatives to support this plan such as Although the use of E-Bikes has several advantages in terms of sustainability and local development e.g. through toursim the further development of E-Bikes and its infrastructure is not support by current initiatives such as BAYERN-SACHSEN ELEKTROMOBILITÄT VERBINDET one example

Bike Hire Scheme ‚Oberlausitz per Rad‘ Network Facts: >An expanding cross-border network of 20 bike rental points supporting bike toursim >Bikes can be picked at one rental point & returned at a different rental point with no additional charge >Rental points are independently managed by hotels, bike shops, tourist information points or local park administrations >Complete technical service by Little John Bikes >Opening of a new int. bike rental station in Krásna Lípa (Czech Republic) in April 2014 >More int. partners wanted! >Unfortunetely, the scheme currently supports no E- Mobility and in particular no E-Bikes due to the lack of a practical bike charging infrastructure > www.ba-bautzen.de 9
10
E-Bike charging system www.ba-bautzen.de 10 Essensial for an E-Bike or Pedelec is a sufficient battery providing sufficient range. Unfortuenetely, these batteries have to be charged! How do we do this? E-Bike Pedelec
11
E-Bike charging system The battery of an E-Bike can be charged removed from the bike >in a separate charging station >or without moving the battery from the bike www.ba-bautzen.de 11 to 230V socket charger docking station Battery in the bike Battery removed to 230V socket Drawbacks of the current system: >Charging E-Bikes/ Pedelecs requires the use of external battery chargers that are either carried by the user to the charging st. or supplied at the charging st. >Batteries and battery chargers are not standardized >Charging E-Bikes during long distance rides requires also a safe environment such as a dedicated room because the charging system of an E-Bike is currently not lockable
12
What companies offer for bike users… www.ba-bautzen.de 12 No battery charger available at the charging point Not a safe environment Open access charging pillar with 230V power sockets (CEE 7/5) Quelle: Belectric Drive GmbH, Kitzingen No network
13
Our solution >Charging tower for partners of the bike scheme ‚Oberlausitz per Rad‘ >Having drawers for standardized and none standardized charging >Using renewable energy >Drawers are lockable www.ba-bautzen.de 13
