GEOMETRY: LINEAR MEASURE
2
DO NOW: Describe the following picture. Be as specific as possible.
3
HOMEWORK: Struggles? Questions? Confusions? Ask Ask Ask!
4
DEFINITIONS Line Segment: Part of a line. Finite, and has two endpoints. Note: Unlike a line, it has a distance. Example: Notation:
5
DEFINITION: Congruent Segments: Segments that have the same measure. Notation: Ex: Note: Congruence vs. Equality. Lengths are equal, but segments are congruent!
6
QUESTIONS In a square, what segments are congruent? In a rectangle, what segments are congruent?
7
DEFINITIONS: Ray: Part of a line, it has one endpoint and extends indefinitely in the other direction. Notation: The name must begin with the endpoint. Ex:
8
DEFINITIONS: Opposite Rays: Rays at a 180 degree angle. Collinear. Ex:
9
LAST DEFINITION Postulate: A statement that is accepted as true without proof.
10
EXAMPLE ONE:
11
POSTULATES 2.1 Through any two points, there is exactly __________________________.
12
POSTULATE: Through any three non collinear points there is exactly _________________.
13
POSTULATE A line contains

POSTULATE A plane contains at least

POSTULATE If two points lie in a plane, then the
16
POSTULATE If two lines intersect, then their intersection is If two planes intersect, then their intersection is….
17
EXAMPLE TWO:
18
NOTE: You may have to draw in a plane that is not obvious on the picture. Ex: Plane that contains the points E, F, and C.
19
EXIT TICKET 1. What is the intersection of plane ADH and plane ABC? 2. What is the intersection of plane ADH and line segment CD?
