Geometry: Linear Measure Day 2
2
Do Now:
3
Homework: Struggles? Questions? Confusions? Ask Ask Ask! ** Look at #12 as a class. ** T intersects which plane?
4
Definitions: Ruler Postulate: – Every points on a line can be paired with a real number. This makes a one-to-one correspondence between the points on the line and the real numbers. The real number that corresponds to a point is called the coordinate of the point. – EX:
5
Example One:
6
Definitions Distance: The distance between two points is the length of the segment with those points as it’s endpoints. What is the distance formula? To figure it out, let’s look at a few examples.
7
Distance:
8
Generalize So…. What’s the general formula for distance on a number line?
9
Example Two:
10
Segment Addition Postulate AB+BC=AC
11
Example Three: If EG = 59, what are EF and FG?
12
Example Four: If JL = 120, what are JK and KL?
13
Definition Midpoint: The middle point of a line segment. (Equidistant from both endpoints) EX:
14
Definition: Segment Bisector: A line, ray or segment that divides a segment into two equal pieces. Ex:
15
Example Five:

Exit Ticket: If points R, S, and T are colinear and RS is 3 inches, and ST is 5, how long is RT? – Draw a picture to help you!
