2 WHAT IS A JOB COACH?  A job coach “may come from a variety of backgrounds such as teaching, rehabilitation or business and be responsible for assisting an individual with a disability in obtaining a job by creating a postive match.  Maintains a job through:  On site assistance  And other work place supports

3 WHAT IS A JOB COACH?  Advances careers of individuals with career development  Will spend time at the workplace to learn the job duties and industry standards then assist the new employee to build proficiency over time

4 WHAT DO JOB COACHES PROVIDE?  Prior to start of the job  Task analysis  Discussion of job duties with employee  Review transportation options  Ensure on-time arrival

5 WHAT DO JOB COACHES PROVIDE?  On the job  Introduce employee with other staff members  Observes employees interactions with others  Observes productivity level of employee and other staff members  Job training

6 WHAT DO JOB COACHES PROVIDE?  Off job site  Meet with employee before and after work and on breaks  Discuss work related concerns  Coordinate activities to help support the employees ability to keep the job  Help employee create financial plan

7 WHAT DO JOB COACHES PROVIDE?  Advocacy  Identification of interests and skills  Identification of possible accommodations  Job development and marketing services to business  One to one on site job coach to model behaviors and provide actual job training  Provide ongoing job follow up and retention services

8 WHAT DO JOB COACHES PROVIDE?  Provides job retention services to employer and person with disability  Maintains evaluation data for performance reports

9 JOB COACHING SERVICES  Gathers assessment data and assisting the person with a disability to develop a list of interests and potential skills  Gathers employment information by doing job analyses at business sites in order to match a person with a position  Provides one to one training on site

10 JOB COACH EXPECTATIONS  Collects proper documentation for the purpose of meeting the required items for program participation and/or parent/guardian approval  Assists vocational coordinator, teachers and related staff for the purpose of supporting lesson plans and/or developing student vocational skills  Coordinates employer and school partners for the purpose of meeting the work education objectives

11 CONT  Monitors student performance in a variety of work sites according to program guidelines  Responds to inquiries from internal and external sources for the purpose of providing information or direction as may be required  Tutors students in vocational skills  Trains representatives of participating organizations for the purpose of complying with program guidelines,

13 QUESTIONS BUSINESSES MAY ASK  Who pays for the time and services of a job coach?  How long will the job coach be onsite  Can the agency provide a background check on the job coach?  What’s the persons disability?  How can I accommodate a person with a disability and is it expensive?  What happens if the person is not successful at the job?
