16 The Government Home for Physically Handicapped Boys – Helen Keller Home - is situated in LBS Nagar, Payakapuram, Vijayawada (near Kandrika school). It has its own two-storied building built in 2003 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. It can accommodate 100 children. At present 45 children are staying in the home. The District Collector has invited Care & Share Charitable Trust to take over Management of the Home. At present the Government has appointed : A Warden, Nurse, Cook and 2 helpers. The Government will continue to pay the staff appointed by them and the budget allocated for the maintenance of the Home. The Government will place at our disposal the Home and the staff and we are free to organise the running of the Home as we think fit. This invitation is a recognition for us and an opportunity to work closely with the Government. Care & Share will have to find additional funds to run the Home according to our standards and in order to provide the children with decent food and other necessities. This can be done by finding sponsors for the boys in the Home. Files for the children have already been made. A decision is awaited from the Board and if approved a MOU will be signed with the District authorities.
