Noble Gases Block- P Valence shell electron configuration Helium-S 2 Neon-S 2 p 6 Argon-S 2 p 6 Krypton-S 2 p 6 Xenon-S 2 p 6 Radon-S 2 p 6 The VSEC affects the Properties: It makes them very stable
3
Properties Odorless Colorless Tasteless Stable and non-reactivity They are six naturally occurring elements Are liquids over a very small temperature range Have been involved in lighting, welding and space exploration. Helium is also in tanks for scuba diving Change in properties: Radon is radioactive.
4
Krypton Discovered by Sir William Ramsay, a Scottish chemist and Morris M. Travers, an English chemist in 1898. Sources: One pound per meter in air Uses: in photographic flashes for high speed photography Unique: in 1960, the length of the meter was defined in terms of the orange-red spectral line of Krypton-86.
5
Helium Discovered by: Jules- Cesar Janssen, a French astronomer in 1868. Sources: Natural air Uses: Breathing, filling balloons Unique: Helium is the second most abundant element in the universe
