1 BELL WORK 12.4.13 1.Copy the following definition of BALANCE into your sketchbook 2. Write the following 3 types of balance: Symmetrical, Asymmetrical, Radial Balance: an equal amount of visual weight in a piece of art

2 SYMMETRICAL if a line were drawn down the center of an image, it would be equally balanced on both sides

3 ASYMMETRICAL the amount of visual weight still “feels” balanced, although it is not exactly the same on both sides

4 RADIAL all elements radiate from a center point

33 1.Draw 2x2 inch square in sketchbook 2.Create your RADIAL design within the 2x2 inch square (think about negative space!) 3.Have design approved by Miss Bruggner 4.Transfer design onto Linoleum Block (& re-trace design with pencil) 5.MAKE SURE NAME IS ON BACK OF BLOCK!!!

34 Art Appreciation Students learned about the linoleum printmaking process and created a series of Op Art prints. Students studied optical illusions and designed a linoleum tile that created a pattern or optical illusion artwork. The repetition of shapes helps show visual rhythm and movement in their artworks. Craftsmanship with the design and carving of the linoleum block. Pattern is consistent and the linoleum block was rotated correctly Print quality and technique are clean and crisp Contrast between the print and the oil pastel background Completion of at least one small print and one large print
