Why Extend it to Saint Helena?

2 What is a Convention? What are Rights?
A Convention is an agreement between different countries. In this case between the UK and other members of the United Nations Rights are things that should happen for everyone Countries that sign the agreement must make sure everyone gets their rights

3 What rights would be protected?
The Convention says countries will not treat people differently or unfairly because of their disability. make sure disabled people get the same rights as everyone else. x

4 What SHG would need to do
make sure disabled people get the rights listed in the Convention. make sure disabled people can use transport and services and get into buildings. produce information in ways that disabled people can use and understand. make sure disabled people have the same chances and rights at work as other people make sure disabled people have a choice where they live.

5 How will it help people with Disabilities?
Governments and public organizations will have to think about the rights of disabled people when they plan or run services. It will make everyone else think about the rights of disabled people. There are some times when people can make a complaint to the United Nations Committee.

6 Being Equal Rights of Access
You should not be treated differently because you are disabled Rights of Access Disabled people have better access to things in all areas of life.

7 Emergencies Right to Life
Making sure that disabled people are properly protected when there are risky situations for everyone, for example when rock falls happen.

8 Law & Justice Being treated equally by the law. Getting justice.
Disabled people should be free and safe, the same as everyone else. Disabled people should not be locked up just because they are disabled - only if the law says so for other reasons

9 Equal Treatment Not being tortured or treated cruelly
Not being used or abused Treating disabled people as people first. Disabled people should be treated like anyone else, with the same respect and rights as others.

10 Independence move between countries and live where you want without discrimination. Independent living and being part of the community. Disabled people have the same right as everyone else to live where and with who they want. Getting about

12 Home Life Respect for the home and the family.
disabled people have equal rights to marriage, a family and personal relationships Disabled people should be able to get help to improve their standard of living the same as everyone else.

13 Health - disabled people have the right to the best possible health and access to health services including family planning. Services to help you be independent. Making sure disabled people can lead an independent and healthy a life as possible and providing support in health, work, education and social services to help that happen.
