Fair Recruitment Government to abolish default retirement age Transition period from 1 April – 30 September Pre 1 October 2011 retirements Staff can continue to be retired under current policy Post 1 October 2011 retirements Cannot compulsory retire staff on age grounds

3 Processes Contracts of Employment and Conditions of Service Retirement clause to be removed for new appointees ROME Applicants will no longer be asked if they are within 6 months of retirement age DAM reports Staff planned retirement dates (PRD) to be removed SiP Retirement will remain as a leaving reason Form 7’s will no longer ask if recipient is close to PRD

4 Paternity Leave 2 weeks full pay – no change to entitlement New Paternity Form Completed by employee Signed off by line manager Sent to HR Operations for recording

5 Additional Paternity Leave Entitlement 2 to 26 weeks leave where mother has not exhausted maternity/ adoption leave Transfer untaken statutory maternity pay to partner as additional statutory paternity pay - min 2 weeks pay can be transferred - max 39 weeks statutory pay between parents If mother has exhausted statutory maternity pay, then any leave transferred will be unpaid

6 Additional Paternity Leave Eligibility Father of a child due on or after the 3rd April 2011 No qualifying length of service for APL Qualifying service for pay – 26 weeks' service at the Notification Week (15th week before the expected week of childbirth)

7 Additional Paternity Leave Timing of Leave Must not start earlier than 20 weeks after baby is born Mother must have ended maternity leave before partner starts APL All APL to be used within a year of birth KIT Days 10 days separate entitlement to main carer

8 Additional Paternity Leave – Example Mother starts maternity leave 11 weeks before the EWC Baby arrives in the EWC Mother takes further 20 weeks maternity leave. Mother returns to work at end of 31 weeks of maternity leave (i.e. when the baby is 20 weeks); Father then starts additional paternity leave (APL) immediately and takes 26 weeks APL (i.e. baby is 46 weeks old). Mother - 31 weeks' maternity pay Father - 26 weeks APL (8 weeks ASPP, 18 weeks unpaid) Total Leave – 57 weeks i.e. more than mothers maternity entitlement
