CHS Physics Multiplying Vectors
2
Three Possibilities 1. Multiplying a Vector by a Scalar 2. Multiplying Vector by a Vector 1. Scalar Product 2. Vector Product
3
By a Scalar Results in a New Vector The magnitude is determined by the product of the magnitudes of the original vector and the scalar The direction is the same as the original vector if the scalar is positive, but opposite if the scalar is negative. What about dividing by a vector?

By a Vector The Scalar (Dot) Product Definition of Scalar Product
5
By a Vector The Vector (Cross) Product Definition
6
Vector Product Direction Resultant Vector is mutually perpendicular to each of the original vectors. Right-Hand Rule Point the fingers of your right hand in the direction of the first vector. Orient your hand so that you can rotate your fingers to the direction of the second vector. Your extended thumb points in the direction of the resultant vector.
