Activating MicroStation V8 XM Edition introduces an additional mode of failsafe operation, allowing MicroStation to run full-featured - if the connection to SELECT Server is interrupted - for up to thirty days. Connectivity problems are generally unintentional and quickly remedied. For that reason, you should not be penalized by being denied access to your Bentley applications. Thirty days ought to provide enough of a buffer to successfully diagnose and resolve the issue. In the meantime, go ahead and get your work done.
