3 What we’ve learned O Identified ways to improve survey questions O Important that job bulletins clearly communicate benefits information O Applicants would appreciate regular updates re: where they are in the recruitment process O New hires need at least two weeks lead time before their actual start date

4 Something to celebrate O New hires were satisfied with the onboarding process O Co-workers, supervisors and managers were seen as friendly and helpful

5 What attracts people to County Employment O Nature of work (69.7%) O Job stability (60.6%) O Pay and benefits (59.1%) O Advancement opportunities (56.1%) O Position relates to my education (50%) O Retirement Plan (47%)

6 Employee Exit Surveys O The importance of feedback  Acknowledging areas of strength  Advising of areas needing improvement

7 Consider how policies are implemented; develop more effective communication strategies re: how policies will impact staff, inform them in advance, assist them to adapt to changes more effectively Educate people on the existing promotional system. Reduce frustrations, judgments and perspectives that the promotional system is unfair. Satisfied with management, co-workers and the work environment. Appreciate not being micromanaged. Appreciate their friendly co-workers & good teamwork. Improve communication at all levels.

8 Build upon commitment to public service Reasons for leaving:  Retirement (50%)  Moving out of area (19.5%)  Better job/career opportunity (14.6%)  Dissatisfaction with supervisor/ management (12.2%)  Better paying job (11%) Employees appreciate training and growth opportunities Consider “Stay Interviews”

10 Next Steps O HRD will continue to send out New Hire Survey O Departments continue to send link to Employee Exit Survey O HRD will update survey questions O Departments will continue to encourage attendance at New Employee Orientation, and OC Leadership Lessons
