Habitat 67 was an experiment in apartment living. This huge living complex was built in 1967 for Expo 67. It looks like an exciting piece of Cubist sculpture. Some people think, that gray exterior looks as if nobody lived there.
3
Habitat 67 is located on the Saint Lawrence River in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is far from the rest of Montreal's business and neighborhoods, so is private, peaceful and quiet.
4
Habitat 67 was designed by Canadian architect Moshe Safdie. He wanted to make better and cheaper housing for the masses, the 3-D city in the sky with 1000 housing units, shops and school.
5
Now, there are only apartments, without shops and a school. Small city, instead became a hugely expensive apartment building
6
There are 158 apartments formed from 354 standard cube modules combined in a variety of interesting ways. Inside the complex are plastic streets, connecting the apartments with the elevators and parking lots. Each one apartment has at least one garden terrace on the rooftop of a unit below.
7
There are 16 different types of "houses". Variations from one-bedroom houses to four-bedroom houses. Building is owned by tenants.
