Action of Steroids Anabolic steroids work by increasing protein synthesis in muscle cells which, as long as the athletes works out, leads to increased muscle size and strength and, at the same time, also allows the body to produce more ATP, the "fuel" muscles need to move. Anabolic steroids are taken orally, injected, or rubbed on in cream form typically in cycles of weeks or months (referred to as "cycling"), Pyramiding- With this method users slowly escalate steroid use (increasing the number of drugs used at one time and/or the dose and frequency of one or more steroids),

History Steroids were discovered by German scientists in the 1930’s.
Steroids grew in popularity in the 1940’s when the Soviet Union used it to enhance the performance of Olympic athletes and weight lifters. Dianabol was approved for use in the U.S in 1958 by the Food and Drug Administration. Dianabol was later discovered to cause harmful affects to the body and was banned by the International Olympic Committee.

Drug Rating Federal law placed anabolic steroids in Schedule III of the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) as of February 27, 1991. Schedule III refers to substances that are between high and low level of being abused. GTL The possession or sale of anabolic steroids without a valid prescription is illegal.

Acne and breast development in men. Performance enhancement and muscle growth. Liver damage, Cancer, High Blood Pressure. For Men: Testicle shrinking, reduced sperm count, infertility, baldness, risk of prostate cancer. For Women: growth of facial hair, male-pattern baldness, deepened voice. For Adolescents: Halted growth through premature skeletal maturation and accelerated puberty changes.
