God Is Our Blessing “Surely Goodness and Mercy Shall Follow Me All the Days of My Life” God’s Blessings Are Certain! God’s Blessings Are Colossal! God’s Blessings Are Close! God’s Blessings Are Continuous!
4
God’s Blessings Are Certain! The principle of God’s blessings being certain is found in the word “surely.” This word speaks to a certainty which is founded upon the faithfulness God shows to the promises He makes! And we know from God’s Word that He is indeed faithful in all things! (Psalm 36:5; II Corinthians 1:20)
5
God’s Blessings Are Colossal! The principle of God’s blessings being colossal is found in the phrase “goodness and mercy.” We can know that God’s blessings are colossal because we already learned in our last lesson that God is our abundance! If you will remember, we took notice of how He fills our cup (life) to overflowing with such things as salvation, happiness, hope, peace, satisfaction, answered prayer, and grace.
6
God’s Blessings Are Colossal! In our text for today, we can add “goodness and mercy” to the colossal blessings God gives us. “Goodness and mercy” is a phrase that represents the entirety of God’s blessings. –“Goodness” represents getting what we do not deserve. –“Mercy” represents not getting what we do deserve.
7
God’s Blessings Are Colossal! Concerning the “goodness” we receive from God, we can know it is: –Great (Psalm 31:19; Nehemiah 9:25) –Sustaining(Psalm 27:13) –Everywhere (Psalm 33:5) –Continual (Psalm 52:1) –Satisfying (Jeremiah 31:14)
8
God’s Blessings Are Colossal! In return for the “goodness” of God, we should: –Give Thanks (Psalm 107:8) –Walk in It (Proverbs 2:20) –Speak of It (Isaiah 63:7) –Repent (Romans 2:4) –Bear Fruit(Ephesians 5:9)
9
God’s Blessings Are Colossal! Concerning the “mercy” we receive from God, we can know it is: –Unbelievable (Psalm 51:1) –Protective (Psalm 32:10) –Abundant (Psalm 86:15; I Peter 1:3) –A Cause for Rejoicing (Psalm 90:14) –Everlasting (Psalm 100:5) –Our Salvation (Titus 3:5)
10
God’s Blessings Are Colossal! In response to God’s abundant mercy we should: –Sing Praises to God(Psalm 59:16) –Call Upon Him(Psalm 86:5) –Be Merciful to Others(Matthew 5:7) –Fear God(Luke 1:50) –Glorify God(Romans 15:9) –Look for It(Jude 1:21)
11
God’s Blessings Are Close! The principle of God’s blessings being close is found in the phrase “shall follow me.” God’s blessings are like a constant shade that surrounds us and protects us from the heat of the trials, tumults, tribulations, and temptations of life.
12
God’s Blessings Are Continuous! The principle of God’s blessings being continuous is found in the phrase “all the days of my life.” God doesn’t just bless us once in a while; rather, He blesses us all day, every day, and in every way! And the good news is that He will never forsake us! (Hebrews 13:5)
