5
Closing What is one thing that you can begin to do today to help preserve our environment?
6
Journal: 4/19 Habitat destruction caused by human events will likely result in… A. the elimination of exotic species only B. a loss of biodiversity C. an increase in the number of species D. the reduction of harmful bacteria B.
7
Standard/ Element S7L4. Students will examine the dependence of organisms on one another and their environments. S7L4c. Recognize that changes in environmental conditions can affect the survival of both individuals and entire species
8
Today I will learn about the biodiversity that exists in various habitats because having a large variety of organisms increases the survival of the habitat. EQ: How can we conserve Earth’s natural resources?
9
Activator Make a table describing five pollutants, including how each pollutant affects the environment. What do you know about resources, exotic species, overpopulation, and habitat destruction? Oil Spills
10
Classwork Environmental Issues/Biodiversity Article Review Students will be given various articles over issues related to but not limited to Environmental Issues and Biodiversity. Students will answer critical thinking questions about each article and will complete a graphic organizer.
11
Closing N.E.W.S. I Noticed… I Expected… I Wonder I Still have questions about…

Journal: Wednesday 4/20 Math Connection: On average, for each 1.6 km a car travels, 0.4 kg of carbon dioxide is added to the atmosphere. If the average trip to work is 18 km how much carbon dioxide is added to the air per trip?
13
Standard/ Element S7L4. Students will examine the dependence of organisms on one another and their environments. S7L4c. Recognize that changes in environmental conditions can affect the survival of both individuals and entire species
14
Today I will discuss pollution and the importance of conserving our natural resources because they are important for our survival as a species. EQ: How can conserve Earth’s natural resources?
15
Activator: How does this image make you feel? Who is responsible? How it could have been prevented?
16
Classwork Direct Instruction/ Class Discussion Teacher will lead the class in a discussion in which the following topics will be discussed: the five types of pollutants renewable and nonrenewable resources how increased human populations and human activities affect the environment Students will view a short video clip over biodiversity and answer discussion immediately following the video.
17
Per 5 1. Chap 21 Quick Lab: Oil Spill/Seabird Eggs 2.Students will go to the following website: http://tweentribune.com/ Click on science (right hand side) Read the article: Pepsi unveils earth-friendly "green" bottlePepsi unveils earth-friendly "green" bottle Comment on article (save on word document)

Journal: Thursday 4/21 Math Connection: A faucet that drips at a rate of one drop per second wastes about 4 L of water per day. Have students calculate how much water would be lost in 1 week and in 1 year if the faucet continued to drip at this rate.
20
Standard/ Element S7L4. Students will examine the dependence of organisms on one another and their environments. S7L4c. Recognize that changes in environmental conditions can affect the survival of both individuals and entire species
21
Today I will create an advertisement for the Environmental Protection Agency because citizens need to be made aware of the negative effects of our actions to future generations. EQ: How can we conserve Earth’s natural resources?
22
Activator Students will work in groups of four to come up with a list of environmental problems. The students will then pick from the list, four problems that they think are most important. The groups will then explain to their peers why they think these problems are important.
23

Journal: Friday 4/22 How does something that is biodegradable benefit the environment? a. It can be recycled, which reduces the use of resources. b.It increases the renewable resources, which can be quickly replaced c.It is completely consumed during normal use, so It never enters the environment d.It is readily broken down, so it doesn’t take up space in a landfill
