Symbolism notes A symbol is something that represents something else, either by association or by resemblance. It can be a material object or a written sign used to represent something invisible. It can be a character, setting, place, or time.

What did you come up with? The Flag on a literal level, it is just a flag, a piece of cloth. However, it also stands for this particular county, for freedom, etc. What about the others?

Symbolism notes Blog #3: Think of another familiar symbol. Find a picture, and tell what it symbolizes. OR, think of a symbol that represents you. Find a picture, and explain why it symbolizes you.

Symbolism notes In writing, symbolism is the use of a word, a phrase, or a description, which represents a deeper meaning than the words themselves. This kind of extension of meaning can transform the written word into a very powerful instrument.
