I WILL BE READING A FAIRY TALE ALOUD ABOUT A YOUNG MAN AND A DRAGON. Comprehension Skill: Understanding Fairy Tales When and where does this fairy tale take place? What make-believe character is in this fairy tale? What character has special powers? What problem has to be solved? How is the problem solved?

This week we will be reading two fairy tales in this section. We will learn about the characteristics of fairy tales, and try writing a fairy tale of your own.

folktale: a traditional story handed down by the people of a country or region from one generation to the next.

fairy: a tiny imaginary being in human form who has magical powers.

hero: the main male character in a story, poem, or play.

culture: the customs, beliefs, and ways of living that belong to a group of people

Cinderella We will discuss what Cinderella you remember hearing. We will watch four stories of different versions of Cinderella. 1) We will be discussing stereotypes. You will be working in pairs (the hat will assign you) to read and analyze fairy tales. 2) You will be working in groups to write a fairy tale. Everyone must participate, points are given! 3) Listen and read along to the c.d. of Yeh-Shen.

1) You will be working in pairs (the hat will assign you) to read and fill out the story map for Yeh-Shen. 2) You will be working with a partner to sequence the fairy tale “The Three Little Pigs” and you may add pictures. 3) Then you will sequence Cinderella on your own by making a chain of events.

1) You will be journaling about if you could change places with any fairy tale character, who would it be? 2) Fairy Tale Quiz 3) As you finish the quiz you may read a fairy tale of your choice.
