3 Louisiana is the only state in the country to close the achievement gap in 4 th grade reading and 8 th grade math. Louisiana’s charter schools identified by CREDO as among the most effective in the country. Since Louisiana implemented accountability in 1999, number of students at Basic and above has increased 20 percent and state performance score has increased from 69.4 to 91.0.
