What is Electronic Engineering? Electronic engineers design and develop electronic parts, devices, and systems for consumer use These engineers may be in charge of developing circuit boards or designing the inside of a cell phone or gadget
3
Core Tasks 1. Design electronic components and equipment 2. Determine the type, quantity, and cost of materials 3. Use CAD software to lay out system components 4. Test systems to make sure they perform as required 5. Some install electronics or provide technical support CareerCruising
4
Attributes and Abilities Curiosity Knowledge of math and science Logical and detail oriented Technological problem solving skills Computer skills
5
Expected Hours Generally work between 40-45 hours a week depending on deadlines Sometimes one might have to put in extra hours in evenings and weekends
6
Work Environment Most work is completed in a lab or an office environment May spend part of their time on the factory floor, inspecting or repairing production equipment or the electronic products being produced
7
Earning Potential Earnings depend on the specific type of position (level) and education Straight out of university - $40-60k Established Engineers - $50-125k Experienced Engineers - $50-125k
8
Highschool Planning English Algebra & Geometry Calculus Chemistry Physics Computers / Drafting & Design Electronics & Communications Technology
9
Education To become an electronics engineer you need a minimum bachelors degree in electrical or electronics engineering You need to get into a university But for jobs, many employers seek experience, thus taking co-op or an apprenticeship can help
10
University Programs Ryerson University Electrical and Computer Engineering Undergraduate Degree McMaster University, Ontario Electrical And Computer Engineering Master’s Degree Carleton University, Ontario Electrical Engineering Undergraduate degree Tuition averages at about $8,500 per semester
11
Qualifications Granted After completing university you are officially an Engineer (P.Eng) Depending on the exact program you take, you will also be granted a degree
12
Possible Employers Enermotion Inc. Bolton, ON Requires a degree in electrical/electronics engineering and less than 1 year of experience Belanger Engineering Corp. Mississauga, ON Requires a degree in electrical engineering and min 2 years of experience
13
Would I pursue this as a career? No I would not because: I rather pursue becoming a computer hardware engineer And I do not like learning about electricity in general
14
The End Thanks for your time.
