Receiving and Batching 5 Coding Supervisors To receive the questionnaires from logistics office on behalf Census Data Processing Unit To batch the census questionnaires in EA order in the store for processing

Programming (a) Main Application SOFTWARE The Integrated Microcomputer System (IMPS) developed by US Bureau of the census – is a system for entry, editing, tabulation and management of census and survey data. MODULES Data Dictionary (DATADICT) Data Entry (CENTRY) Data Edit And Imputation (CONCOR) Publication Tabulation (CENTS) Quick Tabulation (QUICKTAB) Table Retrieval (IRS) Variance Calculation (CENVAR) Data Entry Control (CENTRACK) Utilities Quit

Programming (b) IMPS – Design of data structures – Data Capture – Verification – Validation – Tabulation Other SOFTWARE – SPSS WIN Version 12.0 – MS ACCESS

Secondary Data Processing Flow Export Data from IMPS Import Data into SPSS Set up a Tabulation Plan Run Tables with IMPS and SPSS

Creation of Census Databases Population Housing Ownership Agriculture Deaths DBMS MS-Access

Dissemination of Census Information CDs Internet Monographs

Challenges with Manual Entry Duplication of EA codes and household numbers The use of F2 key in IMPS to force values that are out of range. Transposition errors were prominent Incomplete entry of household records Incomplete entry of modules Data Verification was not effective.

Benefit of Manual Data Entry Approach Build institutional capacity by the purchase of more microcomputers which can be used for other activities after the census. Creates employment facility and training for more people. Data can be easily identified and keyed. Inconsistent data can be identify and resolved before keying. Relatively less expensive Data was processed within reasonable period of eight months.
