4 Rules for Conversion of Decimals, Fractions, Percentages To convert fraction to decimal the numerator must be divided by the denominator, or sometimes it can be compared to a ratio with a denominator of 100. To convert a decimal to percent, move the decimal point two places to the right. To convert a percent to a decimal, move the decimal point two places to the left. To convert a percent to a fraction, place that percent over 100, and reduce the fraction.

5 Unit Rate Let’s talk about unit rate. A rate is a ratio that compares two quantities measured in different units. For example, the unit price is the price per unit of an item. To calculate unit price, divide the price of the item by the size of the item. This is how we determine the better buy! Determine the better buy by finding the unit price. Popcorn: 15oz for $1.69. OR 30 oz for $2.99. Click on the popcorn to see the answer!!! U n i t p r i c e. 1 1 / o z a n d. 1 0 / o z s o 3 0 o z i s t h e b e t t e r b u y.

6 Finding Discount Prices Oftentimes advertisements will say “40% off” to let you know that the original price was reduced. Let’s say the price of a telephone was reduced 40%, and the original price was $24. If reduced by 40%, you will pay 60% of the original price. To find 60%, you must multiply the original price by the corresponding decimal (.60).
