IDRIJA It spans at the upper river basin of the Idrijca and the picturesque mountains, representing a transition between the subalpine and karst regions. This region is known for its abundance of natural sights and cultural historical as well technical monuments. The town of Idrija (population 7,000) developed in a basin in the middle of a wooded area. It was here in 1490 that a rich deposit of mercury ore was discovered. Now, Idrija s famous mercury mine, which was the second largest mercury mine in the world, has closed after 500 years.

PLANICA Planica is the western most valley in the northwest part of Julian Alps. It is also refferred to as The valley under Ponce or the valley of ski jumps. At its end it traverses into one of the most beautiful parts of Slovenia - Tamar. Ponce (2274m) on the west side, Cipernik and Mojstrovka on the east and Jalovec rising over Tamar make the borderline of the valley of ski jumps. On the slope just above Tamar is the well of Nadiža, the first of Sava Dolinka's wells.
