A leader Social influence, one person can give the aid and support to others to complete a certain task. A leader: believes in himself Believes in others Pursues excellence Admits mistakes Is creative knowledge Is an educator Has a sense of humor

Leadership styles Dictator Leaders A leader who uses fear and threats to get the jobs done. Similar to an autocratic leader, he/she makes all the decisions. He/she will punish you if fail to follow directions. Autocratic or Authoritarian Leaders An autocratic leader does not trust anybody. He/she does not take suggestions. One person is in control. He/she feels that they more qualified and experienced Participative or Democratic Leaders a leader who favors decision-making by the group, such as leader gives instruction after consulting with the group. This type of leader is the most common and a more positive type of leader. Laissez Faire or Free Rein Leaders A leader who lets the group lead itself. He/ she is there for questions and suggestions. He/she guides if not working well.

To become a outdoor leader you have to have experience. He/she haves the knowledge and ability to teach/guide a group in an outdoor activity. As in rockclimbing, mountaineering, skiing, whitewater rafting, hiking,ect. There are many apprenticeship programs for outdoor leadership training: COLT (canadian outdoor leadership training) NSOLD (Nova Scotia Outdoor Leadership Development Program) OLTS (outdoor leadership training seminar) Ect.
