Colours can be explained using physics as wavelengths of light in the visible spectrum. They can be explained using biology as the operation of the human eye and the relationship between the eye and the brain. Colour also affects people psychologically…

In language…In language… Colour, in language, can communicate ideas. Examples: I’m feeling blue (really mean sad/depressed) I’m seeing red (I’m angry) We recycle in blue boxes. Green represents being environmentally friendly

Symbolically… Red: emergency signs/vehicles Yellow: warning signs Black: mourning/funerals White: peace, weddings

Culture… Each colour means something different in each culture. What does the colour red mean to you? What does the colour red mean in the China? In each culture, there is a relationship between colours and ideas, feelings and emotions.
