2 Basic microscope parts

3 Rules to go by: 1.Always carry with two hands; one on arm and one on base. 2.Always store on low power (objective) with cord wrapped loosely around base. 3.Always store with course focus turned down. 4.Never clean with anything other than lens paper. 5.Never use course focus on high power.

4 Calculating magnification… multiply the power of the lens (10x) times the power of the objective being used. Ex: on high power (40x), total magnification = 400x

5 Image The image you see is actually upside down and backwards from what is on the stage… You have to move the slide the opposite way of what you would think to center the image.

6 To Do: Next to each label, summarize the function of each part. Use Appendix D, pages 1070-1071 to help you with each part of the microscope shown.
