2 Key events in Walt Disney’s lifetime Walt signs a contract with M.J. Winkler to produce series of Alice comedies on October 16 th 1923 (this date is considered the start of the Disney studio) November 18, 1928 Steamboat Willie is released at the Colony Theatre in New York- the first Mickey Mouse cartoon released and the first appearance of Minnie Mouse July 17, 1955 the opening of Disneyland October 1, 1971 the opening of Disney World January, 1926 the Disney’s move to their new studio at 2719 Hyperion Avenue in California. The name of the company is changed from “The Disney Brothers Studio” to “ Walt Disney Studios”

3 Walt Disney’s timeline 1901-Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5 th in Chicago, Illinois 1919-Hired by Kansas City Slide Company ; first professional job as artist 1923-Arrives in Hollywood, California; signs contract with M.J. Winkler to produce series of Alice comedies on October 16 th (this date is considered the start of Disney's studio) 1925-Walt marries Lillian Bounds on July 13 th 1926-Moves to studio on Hyperion Avenue in California 1927-Creates Oswald the Lucky Rabbit 1928-Creates the character Mickey Mouse 1929-The first Silly Symphony is released 1934-The first appearance of Donald Duck is released 1935-The first Mickey Mouse cartoon in color is released 1937-Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs the first full-length animated feature premiers 1941-Walt and his artists go on a tour of South America; Dumbo is released; the U.S. Army moves onto Disney's lot 1942-Bambi is released 1950-Cinderella is released 1951-Alice in Wonderland is released 1955-Disneyland opens in California 1959-Sleeping Beauty is released 1966-Walt Disney dies on December 15 th 1971-Walt Disney World opens in Orlando, Florida; Roy Disney (Walt’s brother) dies
